Ear Infection #2

After finishing up the medicine for her ear infection, Sweet Pea was healthy for about three days before getting sickish and super cranky again. I took her in to the pediatrician, who confirmed that the ear infection had returned to one of her ears. She put Sweet Pea on a different antibiotic. We are on day five of the medicine, and so far I am not seeing an improvement in disposition. Maybe teeth are at play as well?

The other interesting thing that has happened recently is that the retreat for the high schoolers was this weekend. R stayed the whole time, while I shuttled back and forth between home, the camp, and Grandma's. The kids had a great time, so it's all worth it, right?

We'll be headed out of town this week to spend time with R's family.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

No Heat!

Our furnace went out today. Brr!

We are bundling up and will be sleeping in the living room, rather than upstairs where it is colder.

We've put in a call to someone to come repair it- I will have to call back in the morning to see if they got our message, and to set up a time.

Of course, snow is in the forecast for tonight..

Maybe we can move to Arizona? :D

Edited to add (the next day): They came out today to repair it and figured out that we needed to just replace the entire furnace. The new one is a lot more efficient than the old one (92% vs. 60%), so hopefully that will help with our heating costs.

Ear Infection

Sweet Pea has her third cold in about six weeks, and it seems to be hitting her hard, so I took her into the doctor this morning. No pneumonia or anything of that nature, but she does have the beginnings of an ear infection in each ear, plus a sinus infection. Poor baby!

The doctor prescribed an antibiotic. He said she should be feeling better by the weekend. Hope so!
----------
I also signed up for my spring classes today. A&P 2 is the only thing I have left before I start the nursing program. I'll have the same professors I have now, and the textbooks are even the same.
----------
My dad is having surgery tomorrow. Sounds like a fairly routine operation/procedure, but he's one of those types who is never sick, so it will be odd to see him in the hospital. Send positive thoughts his way, please!
----------
Big plans tonight include walking down to the local diner for an early dinner, choir practice, and watching 'America's Next Top Model' with BFF. Woot!

Making a Difference

This morning, R and Sweet Pea and I got up early and joined some of the others from the youth group, working with Habitat for Humanity on a house in the next town over.

That was a BLAST!

We both ended up pretty dirty and exhausted, but it was a really good experience, and it was great to be able to see the fruits of our labor unfold in front of us. (We were mostly working on landscaping bits- evening out the yard and laying down sod.)

Sweet Pea spent the morning on my back in a Snugli. That actually worked out pretty well! I expected her to get fussy and demand freedom immediately, but she was awake and content and cheerful for a solid three hours before beginning to squirm (and eventually fall asleep). I think she enjoyed being outside and being able to watch so many people.

Edited to add one picture I snagged from our youth group director.
